The “bike lane” on 86th street from Davies Rd to Coronet Rd is in extremely poor shape, with several potholes and some bus infrastructure intruding.
Issues
- Sidewalk is very cracked and heaved
- Pathway is often “standard” sidewalk width, not wider “shared path” style
- Bus infrastructure intrudes in to pathway
- Curb and sidewalk are separated enough to swallow a bike tire (dangerous at speed)
- At north end, curb is too low to protect path users from wayward cars
- In general, width and obstacles often appear to violate recommendations in Complete Streets Design and Construction Standard (2023) (v05) (Pg 51, 60, 76-81, etc)
Communications
Aug 5th 2024: Submitted request as issue #8026199567
Aug 9th: Spoke with Maintenance Dept employee
Sept 4th: Confirmed in correspondence with CoE rep that “part of the contracted rehabilitation work is to create an asphalt shared use path on 86 Street.”
Outcome
The road from ~51st Ave to ~Wagner is scheduled for a complete rebuild, (either late this year or next) which includes the roadway and sidewalks. The new specs will be used for shared-path infrastructure (which is wider than the previous specs)
